Synopsis
The monograph examines the creative work of prominent representatives of the artistic environment of Kyiv and Kharkiv in the 1920s and 1930s, describes the thoughts and moods of Ukrainian intellectuals during the years of the Great Terror. The story is based on archival materials that have become an invaluable source of information about famous personalities of pre-war Kharkiv. The research was conducted on the basis of archival materials from the Bakhmeteff Archive of the Columbia University Butler Library, the private archive of Hanna Shchepko, and concerns letters from Mike Johansen and Mykhailo Boichuk to Alla Herburt-Johansen and correspondence from residents of the DP camps.
